I found an old Vivitar 2800D that I used on the film days wth my Canon AE-1. I know it's unsafe to use as hotshoe flash with my 30D but Can I use it as an off shoe flash (background light) with an Ebay optical slave attached.

I don't know if there are too many eBay optical triggers that can handle sync voltages much higher than that. ...Leo
