That's awesome the lens worked so well for your concert, DocMike. My question for you is how do you get your SLR into the concert venue? The only place I can get mine in are hole in the wall places that don't care what you bring in!

Because this was a hole-in-the-wall place that doesn't care what you bring in. :) Their rules are basically no video, no flash. (Which certain other people ignore.) I go to a lot of small venues which is the reason why I have my SLR in the first place.

Cool - well I will just have to find more hole-in-the-wall places then. :P I went to so many in college, not as much these days. :(

I'm excited your pictures turned out so well. I'm excited to try the nifty fifty but if this lens works well it will be even better with zoom!

heres a couple from this morning ,its been a gray overcast day in north wales ,and these were taken of a female blackbird that has set up nest right outside my home/office window ,perched on the fence without a care in the world ,the thing is both these shots have been taken at an angle through a double glazed window ,which in my mind shows the versatility of this lens

I love this lens, it has been a power house for me since last July.

These are fantastic shots! Did you shoot them in RAW, then convert?

For whatever reason, I can NOT seem to get adequate sharpness from my copy of the lens, no matter what I do. I'm so jealous of shots like these!

Hey all! I just did some test shots at the zoo. I dont know if my lens is a good copy or not, how do I check?

This is one of the decent ones I got.

Should I be satisfied?

why is the 55-250mm so bad under natural light(maybe Singapore's zoo being shaded doesn't help). like i was shooting at ISO 400 , widest aperture and the shutter speed cannot even go beyond 1/250 at zoo or it will be underexposed  60% of my photos are very soft.

So now I'm shooting most stuffs using the manual focus in the hopes to get things a tad sharper.

is that 100% crop? if not then, i think, it's rather pointless. even a soft pic will look sharp at that small size.

yups, that's 100% crop and zoomed all the way to 250mm,

If you meant by the size of the picture, you can view it large by clicking on it and go to my flickr. thanks

This lens is not meant for low light at the long end. You will notice that long lenses that can focus well in low light are VERY expensive (Canon's F2.8L zooms/tele's for instance).

One trick is to deliberately underexpose to get the shutter speed up and then up the exposure in post processing. This works as long as you don't underexpose too much. Also it will increase noise and lose some detail.

For the money this lens costs you cannot expect miracles. But that shot is very good.
