Since you asked for C+C, Your shutter speed was too slow and you missed focusing on the bee which means there isn't really a defined subject in the photo. Try to keep the shutter speed up, 1/500, 1/1000 or even higher. And use a specific focus point and place it right on the subject next time. That will help.

Thanks for the input.....agree entirely, although I thought it was a cool pic seeing as how the bees wings were caught by the sunlight. I was using single point focusing, but obviously I wasn't on the bee :o

I have to keep practicing!!

I love this lens. Some say is too slow for sports but I disagree
Taken at the USA vs Finland Olympic semi-final

We are all learning as we go, don't worry about it. If you want the bees wings in motion, that can work, but you need to still have enough shutter speed for the bees body to be sharp. It takes some practice (and luck) :)

I am not that good at this kind of stuff either, but here is a couple I did with my 55-250 and Rebel XS. I used sports mode which puts the AF in tracking mode with a fast shutter speed so you just have to keep the center point over the bee and it continually adjust focus. I took about 70 shots and maybe 4 were good :) There is just not a lot of room for error at macro distances.

Nice shots, and thanks for the input / advice. I took almost 100 shots of the bees of which I think about 5 came out quite well (IMO). Here's another...

It would have been better if the bee was facing me (or I could have moved to the other side :) ) but sometimes have to take what we can get!

fogboundturtle, which camera did you use? do you mind sharing EXIF data? I've considered taking my 55-250 to a hockey game last week but then figured XT's AF + this lens will not produce any good images and left the camera at home.

Why would a Paranoid android put his full name in the EXIF data? You would think they would hide it, given their self-professed paranoia

I'm just a Radiohead fan :D
