I forgot how much I loved this lens until I took these shots last summer. I need to find a reason to use it more often.

I was saving for an f4 70-200, but seeing this thread, and the price of this lens, I might pick one of these up instead. Am I right in saying the mk2 is just cosmetic/cost saving version and they're identical performance wise? Can pick up a brand new mk2 for £130.

Yep exactly that, just cheaper for Canon to produce - IQ is the same.

I had the 55-250 for over two years...and have some posts in this thread. For the money it is hard to beat. I now have the 70-200 F/4 L IS and will tell you that the difference is well worth the price. The 55-250 is a great little lens on a limited budget. The 70-200 is truly the NEXT LEVEL. Keep saving!

I just used mine a couple nights ago. I have the 24-70L, but it doesn't have the reach of the Nifty Two-Fifty. Normal and 100% crop. Enjoy!

Oh, and I am satisfied with this lens.

First night with the 55-250...not too bad...100% crop with some PP sharpening...
