^^^ Jay, nice shot.

Thank You. I'm wondering if it is the same owl that you captured.

I was out there this morning. There are actually 2 owls living there. The big one was in the first tree east of the entrance and a smaller one in the third tree east of the entrance. As I was leaving I saw just the smaller one head sticking above a limb and thought I'd get a shot cause it looked funny. Took the shot from the car and as I was driving by that last tree I noticed the bigger one as well. I got a wide shot but I haven't looked at it yet to see if you can make them both out. The smaller one is very shy. Once I figured out there were two I went back to try to get a shot of the smaller one'but it flew away towards the nest. When I stopped to try to shot it outside the gate, it flew back to the trees.

I hear an owl in the woods where I live (NE Penna) but have never been fortunate enough to see it. I'd so love to get a pic.

Jay: May I ask where you found these guys? (owls) There are three or four I hear in my neighbor hood at night. I have spent a few days searching for them but, have struck out. I found a nest last spring and got some decent captures of mama, and three little ones. I would like to find some more this year.

Certainly. They are just inside the gate of Rocky Mountain Arsenal. As you enter there is a road off to the right and 3 large trees. You cannot park next to the trees but about 50 yards down you can. The big one is usually in the tree closest to the entrance and the small one in the tree farthest from the entrance or in the group of scrub trees just outside the entrance. The big one lets you get close as long as you move slow. As I said earlier the small one is shy.

Thank you sir!

I might head out there early tomorrow morning. I'll be in the little Silver KIA. Wave if you see it.

I work swing shifts so getting up early to catch the better light is hard for me. I will be changing up hours soon, and will get a few more days off every month. So maybe I can get up there some what early here in the next few weeks. I'll keep an eye open for you. I drive a Black MINI Countryman.
