According to the tests I saw on the Digital Picture, you are indeed correct. The stm beats the non stm version. What was a little disturbing was that the lens also beats out the 70-200 f2.8 as well, in terms of sharpness, at practically all similar focal lengths and apertures when used on the canon 60d.
