Ever since I started freelancing I have a number of shots that I would add to my portfolio. I have seen portfolio's online that are just basically a gallery and I am fine with that unless anyone here has better suggestions. So the real question is how do you layout/present a portfolio in print. By print I don't mean in a magazine, just not online.

Thanks in advance,

Vince

I'm curious about this too. While I'm probably a few years away from even trying to freelance, I'm curious as to how photographs would be laid out in a portfolio. My old roommate is a graphic designer and he has this rather large leather/vinyl portfolio that measures like four feet by three feet. Granted, he has more in there than just photos, but would a good print photo portfolio be the same size? Or would it be something smaller?

I have my portfolio in a portfolio folder I bought at Staples. It hold full sheet 8.5x11. I print my images to 8.5x11 borderless. The folder and the pages are black to contrast with photos. Nothing special. The cover can be folded to stand alone on a table for people to flip through if you wish. Works for my needs.

Conk,

I am not entirely sure what a portfolio folder is. How does it hold the photos in place? The closest I have seen in the staples here is a bunch of bound sheet protectors. What you have sounds good, I just need to find it.

Oh I also have the print copies from newspapers, magazines, newsletters, etc that I keep. Would these go in the portfolio too? Maybe to match the real photo and show credibility.

Not to try to push you off, but I browsed through my local Barnes & Noble and found quite a few books on this exact subject.

Those might be pretty helpful. I wish I could be of more help.

That is something I might put on my website. But that is just me. I use my portfolio for images only. They should speak for themselves. Here is the exact folder I am using.

This shows the pages as being white but that must be the colour of whatever it is they have inserted into the page. I'll assure you they are completely black.

I use exactly the same portfolio as Conk and it works well.

I wish it was bigger, but then I wouldn't be able to print my own photos (limited to 8.5x11)
