Upon further review, it turns out that Lightroom is freaking awesome.

That is all.

Is LR well enough to have it instead of PS or must one have both to realize full potential?

MisterM, LR will make changes globally while PS allows you to make changes to parts of the photo. You really need both to properly edit your photos. Well, you need some image editing program, it doesn't need to be PS but LR integrates well with PS.

Thanks...makes sense. Budget wise I am not ready for both but maybe I will start with LR then move to PS next month when I win the lottery? :)

Lightroom combined with Photoshop Elements isn't actually a bad combination. Or even Lightroom and GIMP to get you started.

It works as designed. I am not an over the top fan. When this was announced I had high hopes in the way of key wording and managing the images that I have. As of today I have over 63,000 images in one catalog and almost as many in a second. I think it may be reaching its limit as far as speed goes. If you don't mind waiting for a bit while it retrieves the info it is good.

I have always been a fan of C1 Pro for its conversions. Having seen the latest version of this program its conversions are still really good and I am waiting for the Pro version to see what they are offering over the current SE version. I have free upgrades so I will take it. I got Lightroom for free as a result of having owned a couple of RSP licenses.

I only hope that they do not let this thing get too big and ultimately bloated.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Lightroom is like that really hot girlfriend that has a nice car, good job, hot friends, and SHE'S NUTS. You keep her around hoping she'll smarten up.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional

LOL cosworth.

Is there anything better for importing and organizing RAW files that I don't know about?

Have a look at the site Digital Asset Management for Photographers (external link). He is trying to sell his book, which is a good read, but also lists a number of other resources for this.

I am waiting to see what Microsoft does to Iview Media Pro. I was just about to buy it when MS bought them. You know how they can screw things up sometimes.
