For those with the foam insert, how much foam do you leave for separation? I have should be receiving the 1510 today.

Also, do you leave the hood backwards while it is on the case?

I plan to fit a griped 7D, canon 70-200 2.8 IS with hood, 24-70 with hood, canon 10-22, 580 II, I might try to fit more if I can, but that is the main thing I want to fit...

This is my storage case. I have a lid organiser on the way which will store most of the miscellaneous stuff, batteries etc and free up room in the centre for my light stands and umbrellas.
At the moment the misc stuff, spare batteries etc is kept together in 2 x ex Qantas Bus Class amenities cases, this will all go into the lid organiser.
The chargers for cameras and rechargeables are kept together in a mesh sided toiletries bag purchased at Index for about 20 baht. I have a few of these and they come in handy for keeping small stuff together in a big bag when travelling, the mesh lets you see what's inside without having to open it.

Do you guys think a 1510 would fit the following?

Canon 5D Mark II w/ Grip
Canon 7D w/ Grip
Canon 16-35 L
Canon 24-70 L
Canon 70-200L
Canon 35L
Canon 50L
Canon 85L
Canon 580EX II (x2)
Pocket Wizard TT5 (X3)

I think you'd be 1 to 2 lenses short of making it happen. If you are thinking these including lens hoods then no way.

All that gear will not fit.

I'll go against the grain and say that you might be able to make that fit with clever organisation. I have the following in my 1510

5D+Grip
5DII+Grip

50L
85L
24-105L
135L
80mm Biometar + Tilt adapter
180mm Sonnar + Tilt Adapter (this lens is a beast)
300mm f/2.8

Set of Extension Tubes
Set of Teleconverters
Lee filter holders + 105mm Polariser + Hood
4x PW Flexes
Plus a whole load of accessories, filters, rings, cables, meters, skyports, e.t.c.

No plastic hoods as all the lenses can use the lee expandable hood.

Mine has to be the one with the must waisted room, I will add the silica gel from pelican, and maybe the battery charger for the 7D, or I might just get me a smaller pelican case just to carry all of the cables, chargers, filter, etc. The main reason I got this case was to keep the gear as safe as possible while I go off roadding/camping.

Sorry for the cheap blackberry picture...

Question: Can the pelican label on the 1510 be removed without leaving mark or damage on the plastic???

Excuse me while I wipe up my drool. I'd love to own a Pelican 1510 with these things inside!

Well, though it's really an off-shoot of this thread, I thought I'd chime in here. I'm a wedding photographer who brings too much gear to every event and wants to get it all into one large rolling case. I'm an inch away from ordering the 1624 w/dividers. One of my last hangups is what to do with the tripod and umbrellas. I only bring the tripod sometimes so that's not so much of an issue. But I use a couple of small 22" umbrellas all the time. Has anyone experimented with attaching something to the outside of the case, not unlike what's on a TT Airport Security? The umbrellas might fit inside on top of the dividers if I lay them diagonally across everything. Doable? And will this make using the lid organizer impossible?

I just received the 1514 and for kick I loaded up almost all my gears in it.
Tough to fit all that, specially with 2 580's. You can try with some mad organizing skills :)

Not bad for $149 shipped.

Pelican 1520 (1524)

My on location lighting case.
I have an additional 580EX that is always in my primary camera bag. This case is to store and transport my additional off studio lighting equipment.

I am usually carrying it with another case full of brackets, studs, etc... and a few light tripods in a bag.

bought them years ago. I'm not sure that at that time there was another color available.
