Here's my 1560 loaded up. I have a Sigma 150 macro coming any day, and I have the 28-70L mounted on the 5D. I'll need to re-arrange to make room for the Sigma and ther 28-70L. I did discover that I'm able to add a layer of foam padding on top of the 100-400 and store the 70-200 on top of that (or vice versa). This will leave plenty of additional room, and the lid will easily close, even with the lid liner attached. I don't transport this anywhere, simply used for storage in the closet.

I started putting some of my gear in the 1654 and can only fill about a quarter of the case. This thing is Huge for the amount of gear I own. I can fit a twelve pack in it and still have room. I guess it's time to start shopping for more gear:D This is the way I planned on going so I would have room to expand.

Jealous!!... Ordering the padded dividers now.

Aside from other things, foam sucks in that through repeated removal and insertion of the gear, the little foam cells get lose and quicky looks really sloppy.

Cheers,

The big brown truck just dropped off my 1654 that I ordered from B & H Sunday night. The first thing I checked was the fit of my 100-400L standing up. IT FITS! The lens with caps on and hood reversed is about 1/4" higher then top of the case with the lid of the case open, and the inside of the lid is about 1-3/4" deep. That makes it plenty big enough for the 100-400L. Pictures will follow this weekend when I have some time to get it organized.

Awesome!!!! get those pics up and I'm ordering!

I called every photo store between Reno NV and Stockton CA (Including Sacramento) and nobody had the padded dividers on stock. I will be purchasing online, I am moving this weekend so I need to get that done before ordering. Otherwise my ex-wife will have a bonfire party with them.

As soon as I do get them (monday?) I will post them.

By the way, I am going with the double decker, and also the lid organizer, it all seems super cool.

Honestly, I do have my doubts about how snug the gear is inside such rugged case. Foam does the job well (from a technical point of view) but does not last worth crap.

Divider owners: Does your gear fit snugly as well, or you can hear the lenses and bodies go back and forth ?... My reason for this case is ultimate protection for the gear. Otherwise, some large hockey gear bag would do the trick ;)...

Thanks everyone for sharing so far, it's a topic I had not seen very often in these forums.

Had to re-arrange my Pelican 1560 case to free up some extra room. I was able to store the 100-400L on top of the 70-200L with foam in between. This freed up some valuable space while I'm still waiting for my long-overdue Sigma 150 macro (damn you, Amazon). I'd like to get some longer foam to put between the two large L's, though.

Snug as a bug in a rug! But keep in mind that my Pelican generally serves as a stationary storage container.

Very true!!.. turns out today I moved into a second story apartment, and the carrying of the container upstair was a bit less than pleasant. Leaving it inside the trunk overnight, in a state where you cannot shoot at the thugs stealing your gear, is also not an option.

So all in all, I am considering it as a modular solution, a good "bring all you got" case, but I am also keeping the shoulder bag and backpack for smaller, more dynamic assignments.

Now that I have a new address, padded dividers here I come !!!! ;)

That's how I'm using mine...dust-proof, moisture-free storage locker in the closet. When I head out, I take what I need in a pack and the rest stays behind. The lid liner is also a big help by keeping the small stuff controlled and in one place.

BTW...the orange foam pads shown above are extras from a pack that I have. They are not part of the Pelican set.

Well here's the pictures of my Pelican 1654 loaded with the gear in my sig. The 40d has the sigma 24-70 on it and the XTI has the Tokina 12-24 on it . Both bodies have grips(Canon) on them . The space in the middle is reserved for a 70-200 2.8 is:D I have just sold a couple lenses and plan and getting a few new ones soon. This case is almost big enough to hold some of the other things I like to shoot with:lol:

You had to go on showing off, hadn't you...

Nice photo divider pics. Definitely makes the 40D Cameras look tiny in there, makes me wonder if I could keep my 1D bodies attached to the 16-35 and 24-105, or any such combination. At any rate, the setup looks good (though not as snug as the foam).

Thanks for sharing, and point those things down range !!!... ;)

Cheers.
