I got my Pelican 1510 with dividers (Pelican 1514) and I am LOVING it. It took me a while to figure out how to fit my gear in there. I notice that most people do not use hoods with the Pelican 1510. I love my hoods, so I had to figure out a way to get them all in there. I am especially happy that I get it to fit with the 24-70 mounted. I use the 24-70L 90% of the time.

I have:

  1. 5D Mark 3
  2. 5D Mark 2
  3. 70-200 f/2.8L IS ii + hood
  4. 24-70mm f/2.8L + hood (mounted to 5D3)
  5. 16-36mm f/2.8L ii + hood (stored on back of 70-200)
  6. 85mm f/1.2L + hood (stored on back of 70-200)
  7. 50mm Compact Macro f/2.5
  8. (2) 580EX2 flashes

I plan on getting the lid cover organizer so that I can put a bunch of crap in there. I am LOVING this case. I am so happy that I got everything to fit.

Looking for a small pelican case for my lighting gear, What would be a good case for storing, (1) 580ex II, (2) 430ex II, and (4) 622-c triggers? Thanks!

Recently purchased a 1564 in black. I'm expanding my camera and lens collection (ordered a 5DIII + 70-200 f/2.8L II yesterday! woo!) and need a larger kit case. Plus, I've been storing my 5DII and lenses in my think tank shoulder bag and would like to store them in a more safe and moisture free environment.
Here's the distribution so far:
(please excuse cell phone quality shot)

So far I'm loving the case. The only thing I'm not crazy about is how few small dividers it comes with. Luckily, though, I have some left over from other cases/bags that I could throw in to add a bit more padding around the lenses and camera bodies.
I also had a bit (read...a huge amount) of pick and pluck left over from another case I have so I put some below the two lenses to bring them almost flush with the top of the dividers.

Which brings us to...HPRC cases.
I know, I know! It's not a Pelican but here's my HPRC 2800W (external link):

Aaaaaaaaand here's a size reference to the Peli 1564:

IMAGE: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5470/9028238567_f7c43d0feb_b.jpg

This thing is BIG. But it needed to be. I wanted to feel safe transporting three Flolights (think kino-flo diva 400s) around but the soft case that comes with them is basically just a nylon sack. I do a lot of location shoots so I needed better protection for these fixtres and their fragile bulbs.
Didn't want to spend the $400-$600 it would have taken to get a Pelican in the correct size (probably the 0500...no wheels too!) so I researched the alternatives and found HPRC.
This thing is built wonderfully and has great wheels and two large handles for carrying/rolling.
One downside is it's also HEAVY. Weighing in at around 29lbs empty, it's ~70lbs with the lights + foam but that was to be expected after putting in three 11lb fixtures + mounting brackets and power cables. I don't really have a problem lifting it up to my car, though, and can carry down stairs well enough using just one of the handles. The wheels do make life a lot easier though.
Here's the distribution on the inside:

Both of these cases have recently joined my rag-tag group of hard cases. Here's a family photo:

IMAGE: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3824/9028238603_30787572b1_b.jpg

From top to bottom:
Pelican 1564 - Camera Kit
Calzone Case - Bought it used on craigslist for $40. Came with custom dividers inside Holds my White Lightning x1600 and 3 Einsteins + PW triggers and cables. I have a love/hate relationship with this case. It's super protective but just too heavy. Almost 45lbs and no wheels + non-ergonomic handles.
Storage Locker with Wheels - $40 From the container store. Holds all my softboxes/stripboxes, extension chords, small grip gear, extra brackets for video lighting ect...(basically anything that's not fragile.)
SKB Case - This holds 2 LP Sola ENG LED fresnels along with 6 large 105w cfl bulbs + custom video light I built for the 47" PCB octabank.
HPRC 2800W - 3 Flolight 220aw

All in all I'm satisfied with my collection but for the future I'll probably end up replacing the calzone case with a pelican. I'll also probably buy only Peli or HPRC cases for my expanding kit from now on.

If you had the 70-200 mounted on the other body would both bodies fit on the one row?

Would the 1300 or 1400 case be good for the items listed above?

I'm thinking of picking up the 1560 (http://www.amazon.com …&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER (external link)) tomorrow to use to store my alien bee/einsteins. Can anyone confirm if that case would be big enough to carry 3 lights with the cables?

You guys with lid organizers do you feel it detracts from the protection some? Im not sure I want the tops of my 5D3s hitting whatever is in the organizer in my 1514.

Also, has anyone used a 1514 for Alienbees? Im getting 3 + 2 VMLs and was hoping I could use my 1514 for the lights so I can get a new case for the gear.

depends on whats in your lid organizer and how secure your items are. most of my lenses and body are pretty snug in the dividers so they dont move much. my organizer is mostly filters and remotes, etc, so nothing sharp or abrasize that could hurt the gear.

however, if the case fell lid side down i imagine the impact to the gear would be worse than if the padding was there. 95% of the time i use my 1514 for storage, so its a moot point for me.

You should be able to easily fit three Einsteins or bees with cables and shipping covers on. Don't know about adding the reflectors though.

CL is not a bad place to look for goodies. I'll check on a regular basis for things I'm interested in. Took more than a year before the 1650 turned up with padded dividers, at a price that can't be matched. Gotta wait for it, but sooner or later you hit pay dirt.

I also forgot to mention that you can put the foam pad in on top of the organizer if its empty.
