Good luck with the shoot today Angus! Have a play with that umbrella to get a hang of it, and work out what gels you will be using for the rim light, and most of all have fun while your doing it, it's amazing how much more relaxed he will look if you are too.

But he's just the driver, call their customer service and ask what happened, they may have a refund policy if it isn't delivered the next day. Worth a shot!

Cool, but don't be afraid to try something else also. All depends on the available time I guess.

So I've decided to get ready to plonk some dosh on 3 studio lights that I can run outdoors to overpower the sun. Good times.

Does anyone here run generators / battery packs for this stuff?

Have a chat to Jason Cole, I know he uses some pretty high end lights for his outdoor shots.

Oh OK, hehe. How about some AlienBees with the Vagabond 2. Or you could get a generator with a pure sine wave thing. I was watching the video on the front page of strobist, and that's what that guy uses. 2000watts his generator was.

Na you need a portable WIND generator. Just cart around a 20m mast with the wind generator on it and you are good to go. Oh - forgot about the batteries and inverter.:p

Anyone have the 70-200 f2.8 NON IS here? I want a 70-200. But my wallet says NO! to the IS. I am considering the Sigma 70-200 ($1300) rather than the Canon NON IS ($1600) or the IS ($2300)

$1000 extra to jump from the Sigma to the Canon IS is a LOT for me. Thoughts/opinions anyone?

Where would I use the lens? Dance Concert/Soccer/Boating/Car Racing/ any general thing I need a zoom for. Do you think IS will make that much difference? I shot as a hobby, not as a bussiness.

Canon 2.8 non-IS is $1515 from the Buff and $1499 from D-D, just FYI :)

The Sigma gets some quite good reviews.. if I were to get one of them I'd be getting the IS version, mind you - if you're doing low light work being able to get away with 1/100 (or 1/50 if you have a really still subject) rather than 1/200 will make a notable difference.. This is from the perspective of someone who does mostly low light work.

For soccer, boating and car racing, though - I don't know if you'd bother if money was a factor. While it'd be nice to have I think that generally you would be able to shoot with shutter speeds at which IS wouldn't be of -that- much assistance.

Sigma is actually $1229
Non IS Canon is $1499 you say...

is the canon really $270 better? All the stuff I have been reading seem to think that there isn't much between the sigma and the canon NON IS.

$270 gets me on my way to a 10-22 which would complete the range I would like to use currently
