how much did it cost to convert the camera to IR?
actually, what's involved in doing it?
I converted my 10D by myself. Cost $50 in materials and about 4 hours of my life.

More info please if you have links handy ![]() Materials depends on what you can find... I enquired about purchasing Schott RM715 glass from someone and they quoted me $175 for a piece to fit my sensor. I thought that was a bit much so I looked on ebay and found a 50mmx50mm piece of RM780 (780nm wavelength cutoff) for $50 shipped from the US. Bargain!! I think you can get a suitable piece from lifepixel for about $150 otherwise or if you are really keen, just buy a 52mm IR filter, pull the glass out and cut to size using a glass cutter. I'm thinking of doing that myself because I'd like a bit more false colour than I am seeing with the 780nm filter. Dan

Yeah I was thinking of doing 780nm too, it looks nicer for photos... Clarence

I guess the 400D (which actually belongs to Alan) will either be sold, or kept as an IR project camera - we're undecided at this stage. Clarence

If it were up to me, I'd be going for a false colour 780nm filter. ![]() The false colour is provided by the 715/720nm filters. The 780nm is closer to pure IR B&W Dan
