Much cheaper.

Never judge a person till you walk a mile in their shoes - by then it won't matter. You are a mile away and they have no shoes.

Stupid question of the week time again - this time it's about filters.

I used a polarizing filter on my Olympus digital camera every now and then which seemed to define things like clouds in the sky a little better on outdoor shots. I have also heard of UV filters but I don't know what they are all about.

Are polarizing filters worth using when doing outdoor photography and what do UV filters do? (In 25 words or less)

Obviously. Good thing mine is incomplete or you'd be hitting up B&H again ...

hahaha. Surely Angus' photo tax is well overdue? He has one of the most impressive gear lists in here yet his taxes remain unpaid. Picsorban I say! :p

UV filters do nothing at all for DSLRs other than protect the front element and degrade image quality slightly. Polarising filters can be very useful particularly in very bright conditions, for the same reasons that polarising sunglasses are useful for humans.

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=368177 might be helpful too.

I am certainly interested in what else you have photographed besides all the emergency vehicles on the site you link to. Especially anything to do with sports.

Took some pics in Rural NSW. Will be doing lots of sports this weekend. Also a strobist meet on this Sunday.

Slightly. They lower the amount of light into the lens by a tiny fraction of a stop and increase flaring. But not by much, especialy on the Pro level ones.

Anything you put in front of the lens must degrade IQ by some degree, the only question is how much. If you use top quality filters such as your Pro1s, then it shouldn't be by any discernible amount.

I don't use filters any more. My lenses are naked, just the way they're meant to be.
