Hi,

I have a seperate drive that I use for temp files as well as Scratch Disk for Photoshop. I see that lightroom creates a ton load of preview files. My questions are:

- Do I need to backup the preview folder(s)?
- Is there a way I can keep my lightroom database on my primary drive (with originals) and move the LR Preview files and folders onto my second drive? I am simply trying to increase LR's performance a bit. I think if I have previews on a drive different than the originals (+ LR + LR Catalog), it should speed up a bit.

Thanks.

Canon EOS 400D Xti (Poor man's 1D,) Canon 50mm 1.8 II, Sigma 55-200mm f/4-5.6, Canon 18-55mm Kit; Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS

You don't HAVE to back up your preview folder - if it got deleted, it would just recreate on demand.

Moving the preview files - it's possible on OS X using a Symbolic link. Keeping the previews separate from the images does help a little - catalog and previews on one and images on the other works nicely on both Mac and PC.

Thank you Victoria. Please forgive me for my ignorance... what is a Symbolic Link?

I understand I can move both the database and previews, but I wanted to keep the database on a seperate drive if possible as my 'Seperate' drive does not contain any permanent data and is used for Temps, Cache, and as working directories only.
