Hi,

I have a small shoot tomorrow. Theme of the shoot is R&B / Hip Hop. I have no clue regarding posing etc for this type of shoot. Could someone please give me some direction/links etc? Perhaps some information on posing? It will be both head shots as well as full body shots.

Also, any tips on working with darker skin tones would also help a lot. Most of the images will be against white background so I am a bit worried about how to deal with dark skin tones against white background.

thank you.

I'm probably not going to be much help... But I saw that you had no responses yet.

I can't help you with any posing, except to say you may want to look through some hip-hop style magazines and see what you like. I think the hip-hop scene will pretty much pose themselves. This coming from a white boy in Orange County, CA - So take with a grain of salt! 8)

I've heard that darker skin tones sometimes requires some sort of anti-glare type powder (don't call it make-up!!) to help with shiny-ness from strobes or flash. You may want to look into that.

Also, if you are shooting against a white background, I would expose for the skin and let the background blowout, if it needs to. Also, you could decrease the shutter time and let the ambient light expose the background a bit and use the flash to expose the individuals.

Good luck and be sure to post your results!

If they are artist , then they will know how to pose music artist are real easy going and easy to shoot. Rnb is sensual so mix in some sexy with street.

On the skin just take some test shots in program mode and then adjust accordingly in Manual. If you want to make sure.

Edit, Make them take towels for sweat! sweat on dark skin is very visible

Is one shot of many I did for a local group. Has a lot of PP but it what they were going for...

Towels are a must as Dade mentioned and even a little powder for shine if ness.

Thanks guys. Shoot is for one female model. She is looking to update her portfolio and needs some for a record company as well. All of the images will be indoor/flash photograqphy. We will be doing both head shots as well as full body shots.

I guess I will check out some websites etc for poses.

Thanks.
