I was away on a dental mission in Nicaragua, and this is what I came home with (luckily no disentery
)
So, I thought I'd share my experience with you guys. 2 Days in San Juan del Sur (vacation), 1 day flying from Managua to Siuna (poor poor poor area of a poor country), 10 days on a farm while hiking 2 miles there (literally), 2 miles back (no, I'm serious) to the health clinic with no electricity, running water, or variety in our meals (rice and beans, rice 'n beans, and beans and rice... sometimes a chicken or two, some fruit, and a Nicaraguan attempt at spaghetti.)
It was a fantastic trip, and I hope I get to do it again. I was one of the attendings, and showed four lucky dental students the ropes on extracting difficult teeth in a difficult situation. No electricity, suction, lighting, compressors, generators and running water only allowed us to extract hopeless teeth and pray the people could walk the 5 or 10 hours to Siuna for dental treatment (and afford it).
Hope you guys enjoy the photos.
