I did her senior pictures and asked her back to try out my studio in my apartment. I am in college full time right now and have spent about a month trying to make something that would help me create a studio without spending 2K. I made this for $80 and would be glad to elaborate.

Please critique these shots if you get some time. I would love to know what I have done wrong.

The rest of the series is HERE (external link). If you have any suggestions about which ones are better than others or some that I might want to post here let me know. I've never done this before so it's hard to get my head around.

They all look great! The first and the third ar little underexposed in my opinion. I would love to know how you managed to set up a studio with only 80$!!!

Very nice. I really like the third shot! :D

The light does look good but it looks like you have a white balance inconsistency to me.

Great line; and it only cost $80 to ring true.

i like #1 & 3...underexposed or not, i think they work...tho #1 might be a little better if her eyes were sharper or popped a littel more...i do like the pose showing her tattoo like that tho.

not a big fan of #4 tho...the wrinkles in her shirt are not very appealing

<< also curious as to setupd for $80! lol

Thanks for the comments so far. I was a little worried about the exposure. I will go back to the raw images to see what I can do. I was very tired when I did these.

The studio consists of 3 backgrounds I made from Joann Fabrics. One is a 90 inch by 4yd white muslin (about $12). The others are the same dimensions but they are made from 45-inch by 4yd pieces that I ironed together using an iron-on hem. Each piece was $1.59 a yard, making the additional 2 backgrounds for $13 a piece.

My lighting consists of 3 200 watt bulbs in utility lamps ($20) that clip on to things. One was attached to the ceiling for a hair light and the other two were moved around as needed.

Otherwise, the 5D, with the 50 1.4, 85 1.8, and 135 f2, was probably the expensive part of this setup.

Overall, I'm fairly happy with the setup but would like some more powerful lights. I used the 580 ex sometimes as well.

I will re-visit exposure.

I adjusted the exposure on 1 and 3. Thanks for noticing. I wasn't totally sure.
