Don't mind the crop, it makes for a nice wallpaper... keeping an eye on my icons. Shot through the window with my Sigma 18-200 OS at 200mm, ISO 100, 1/200 f6.3.

Great 1st bird shot, I cant give you an Id, looks a bit like our buzzard, your red tail to me. Great capture anyway and welcome to the bird section. :)

Beautiful shot. Looks like a Coopers Hawk to me. Was it as big as a Crow or smaller, like a Blue Jay?

I agree. Cooper's Hawk. Sharpies have a square tail. Nice capture.

Fantastic first bird! is this cropped already? if not I would crop some off the left then resize. Very nice detail and color!

Thanks everyone. I think you guys are right on the Cooper's Hawk after looking through a book. Bromm, I cropped it that way as a desktop background, it kind of balances the desktop with icons on the left, but here's another crop:

Juvenile, by the way. Adults have red eyes. Nice shot! And you're right, they are mean, at least to other birds!

Excellent First Bird and you don't know how many folks are jealous that this is your first shot.. Many of us wait years to get a great shot like that. Hawks tend to keep their distance. Well Done!

Thank you Liz and Joayne... I must have gotten lucky because I never see hawks in the backyard, and this guy was pretty photogenic -- he didn't budge from that pose for 30 minutes!

Very nice shot! I'm likeing the results from the lens! Is that the OS version or not? It would be cool to have an all around lens when I don't want to carry everything else.

Thanks everyone! BSBXTi, it is the OS version... it's a great "all around" lens.
