I read the manual twice. Measuring mode : ambient (icon circled) I want to do shutter priority mode & it won't let me. The only way I can get it in shutter mode is with the auto-reset cordless flash icon or the cord flash icon.

I can get it to be in ambient mode with aperture priority mode.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you, kath

Yaayyy...I finally found a post that helped me out. It was from SkipD back in August of 2006. Fixed my problem. Thank-you Skip!!

And here is the "fix"

The settings for my L-358, when holding the Mode button and rotating the thumbwheel clockwise (starting from Flash - Cord mode) go like this: FlashC (T), Ambient (T), Ambient (F), Flash (T), and back to FlashC (T). The (T) and (F) in the sequence is indicating which letter has the square around it in the lower part of the display.

Looking into the book further, it is apparent that you have your meter set up for frames per second (f/s) which is a cinematography (movie-making) mode. To get back to still camera metering, set the mode to show the f/s, then release the mode button. Rotate the thumbwheel a couple of full turns clockwise, and the f/s will turn off and you will see values for still camera shutter speeds. Page 14 in the book (section 1-4) tells how to use the cinematography readings.
