I hate my flash bracket. hate it. will never use it again despite what the wonderful curtis says. I hate it. cumbersome. heavy. pointless. Just my little ol opinion.

That's why I bought one of these: http://www.dembflashproducts.com/bracket/ (external link) (Actually, I bought last year's model.) These are lightweight and work pretty well. They're also reasonably inexpensive.

I'd definitely recommend a bracket for the Flash Picture quality as well as the "I'm a Pro" look! I picked this one up...Cutom Bracket Pro-M (external link)

It works very well and I don't mind it at all. When you need a vertical, you just slide it over and it looks and sounds cool as well as giving you even light! You can adjust the Flash height and trajectory. The website says $400+, but BH has it for $379 (external link)

If you order it with Bill me Later, you get 6 months to pay it off! You won't regret it!

Good Luck!

You can't (well, you can, actually) say that and not say which bracket it was that you hated.

I would be shocked if it was a Newton.....which are light, form-fitting, and definately not pointless.

... Buy a 430/420 and that becomes your Slave. ...

I did this and I'm happy with the results but my 430 is still way to unruly!

Also, I like my bracket because it raises my flash even higher. Although I hate it as well for being as conspicuous as it is.

Edit: This is the one I have: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …_810_Press_T_Bracket.html (external link)

It work well with a stofen tupperware but not good if you use a bounce card.

Wow, 6 vs 1/2 dozen!!! The CB looks sturdier and weighs a bit more too.

Went to the store yesterday and tried out three different Custom Brackets...low end, medium, and high.
I ended up with the Custom Bracket CB Junior...which is what was recommended to me from the start. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the QRS, for example. But, it is smaller, lighter, and less obtrusive. And it gives me what I want--gets the flash off the camera and off axis a bit.
On the other hand, if I were doing a lot of shooting (for example, wedding photography), the QRS would have been a no-brainer. For my purposes and casual use, the CB Junior works.
The ST-E2 works with it, too.
The only thing I don't like about the CB Junior is that it is an awkward shape and may be difficult to get into my camera bags!
