Besides being incredibly busy at work and elsewhere, I've been a bit busy shopping lately.

First and foremost, my apologies for the sheer boredom you all must be suffering from in my absence. It is with heavy heart that I've spent time doing other things lately, all the while knowing you've been crying in your milk without me to kick around. The multitude of "where the heck is mdjak" threads that have popped up have been so heartening. I understand firsthand from Pekka bandwith has been almost overwhelmed with the chatter regarding my recent absence. It's much appreciated as always.

Now on to my confessions, my loyal flock.

I've hesitated to share my most recent purchases for fear of being called, among other things, a show-off, a moron, a dolt, a braggart, in and out of that order. While I may fit the stupid bill, show-off and braggart is the furthest thing from my humble intentions.

So, without further ado, here are the things I've been doing and playing with lately.

1. My MacBook Pro just wasn't cutting it in the speed department. Rakefet told me she was getting a MacPro tower, 8 core. Could I let her have a faster computer than me, I ask you? I think not.
So, I've got a shiny 8 core tower, along with a new 23" cinema display along side my 24" Dell ultrasharp.

2. As many of my bretheren are aware, I've sold some lenses lately. All part of a master plan, my droogies. You see, for now, I'm keeping my Mark III as my long end of things, as I've retained my telephotos, and I've just picked up a D3 with a 14-24 and will be acquiring their new 24-70 shortly. Haven't had much shooting time with it yet, but I'm liking it so far.

I trust I will not be banished or derided for my decision to go partially to the dark side. I'm an unabashed equipment lover. I may even seek permission to post a sample here and there from it.

Well, I've gone on long enough. I'm just so thrilled that I could make you all happy again by gracing you with my smelly breignpharts.

If he was hoping to get his title changed based on this post, Not Bloody Likely! He seems bent on reinforcing it!

I'd be interested in seeing how that D3 works out, if for nothing more than the fact that Canon is going to have to respond in kind, and I'm excited about that. Competition is a gooood thing, people.

also be slightly interesting to see how the 'balanced' view of someone invested in both systems works out. Of course if he prefers Nikon he's clearly crazier than the rest of us...;) - speaking as a wannabee gear head that is ;)

Mark,

I'm a former New Yorker, transplanted against my will many years ago. I grew up on the headwaters of the Hudson so I guess you know what that means for everyone downstream. A friend of mine sent some "cowboy logic" to me a few years back. One of the items was:

"Never drink downstream from the herd."

So - with that sage advice in mind - WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKIN' ?

:)

Don't fergit to get a Nikonian flash for that D3 badboy. I hear the SB-800 is pretty sweet.

ha! I thought something was missing around here, now I found it.

So you had to go and get a mac pro tower, your not a braggart at all, just competitive :D
But your monitor is bigger then mine, Guess I need to get shopping again.

I love my mac, I went to bed in tears the first night, now I hugg and kiss it before bed. Its simply amazing!

Keep us up to date on that "camera" and "stuff" you bought. (can't mention the name ya know) ;)

From hence forth, it should be known as "The camera whose name we shall not mention"

I knew you were gonna do it. What's next?
