Hi, I was thinking of getting the Kenko 1.4x TC. From what I've read, the Kenko 1.4x TC should be compatible with the ef-s 17-55mm f/2.8 IS. I know that AF might be a tad slower and that the max aperture would go down a stop to f/4.

Does anyone have this set-up? And if possible please post pictures on the tele-end at f/4 (55 x 1.4 x 1.6 = 123mm). I'm interested in how the bokeh turns out.

Thanks!

[edit]: I just read on Kenko's website that they do not recommend using the TC on zooms starting under 50mm. Can anyone confirm whether or not the TC will work with the 17-55mm f/2.8?

TCs work best with telephoto lenses, and will not really be worth it for a standard zoom like the 17-55. Just take a few steps forward and you'll be fine.

I will probably be getting a 70-200mm L sometime within the next year. I just thought I'd get the 1.4x TC early to mess around with the lenses that I have now. Thanks for your input Jman13, I'll just hold off on the TC purchase until I buy the zoom.

the 70-200 is widely known to be one of Canon's sharpest lenses and will tolerate the 1.4 TC very nicely. If you get a good deal on one and you know you are getting the 70-200, go for it!
