wow, awesome deals in there.
i dunno why some people dump their stuff so cheap. probably they are looking for a quick sale and don't really care how much money they are losing. i assume if they have that much good gear, they are quite well off and don't have to worry about losses.

Logic dictates that a smart person won't sell something for less than they know they can get for it.

For instance: Canon 24-105mm f/4 for $700. That would have sold in the same amount of time for $800. So, that person willingly took a $100 pay cut for no conceivable reason.

Canon 100mm macro with hood for $200? What? AT LEAST another $100 out the window for no reason. At $300 I would have bought 10 of them. Why $200?

Truly, honestly, for me there's only one reason to sell all this stuff so cheaply: So you can get the maximum amount of money paypaled/wired/sent to you before someone notices it's a scam. Everything sold in 20 minutes. That means that the 'seller' has about a week to collect the cash from all of it, because it will take about a week for people to get nervous. Assuming most of the people pay within 48 hours, we now have a situation where someone is receiving thousands of dollars in a short period of time, and no one will know anything is wrong until it is far too late.

Again, I'm not saying I know this is a scam. But, if I wanted to scam people, this is exactly how I'd do it.

The guy has 3 posts, and he's selling a ton of super expensive goods for far less than they are worth. If I were you, I wouldn't feel too bad about "missing out" on this deal.

They allow local pickup. To me it is an indication that the seller's time is more valuable than a few hundred dollars she loses in the sale.

Or it means that they know statistics, and they know their prices are so low that they will attract dozens of offers in a small period of time, and they know that seeing "Local Pickup" means a ton of people will think "Hey. they must be legit because they're offering to meet!" If that convinces just one person to send money that wouldn't have otherwise, then it's done its job.

Think about it: The likelihood of finding someone in their area is pretty dang slim. How far would you be willing to drive for something that would only cost you $15 to ship? And, if the gods of probability frown on you and it just so happens that someone within driving distance is willing to buy it... just say it's already been sold. Then retreat to one of the many offers that have already piled up in your inbox, because no one can resist deals so darn good they're unbelievable, but close enough to the retail price that they just might be legit.

Come on... a Canon 100mm macro for $200? A 5D for $1400? A 1D for $500? That's AT LEAST $800 of lost revenue right there. That's not in a hurry; that's stupid. If these prices were on a SuperDiscountCameraStuff.com website, the OP would be referenced to one of the many stickies concerning scam sites, as well as about a thousand different ways of saying "If it's too good to be true, it is."

Again, there is a chance that this is completely legit, and someone just walked away with a 5D and 24-105mm IS for less than the retail price of the 5D. But, there's also a chance aliens will land in my apartment complex and hand me a winning lottery ticket.

If you want to take this chance, you're more than welcome. And you could end up with some awesome stuff for an obscenely small amount of money, and then I'll feel silly. But I really, really, really don't think that this sale is 100% legit one way or another. And I'm not saying that it is a scam, but if I was going to scam someone, this is exactly how I'd do it.

If they have a business these items could have been fully depreciated and basically worth very little to the business. Their time could be worth a lot more than the few hundred bucks they are not asking for, or maybe they figured they'd pass along some good deals. Then again perhaps they don't have a handle on what the going used prices are or they are absolutely loaded with money and don't really care. They could be utterly disheartened with Canon and basically want to give their gear away. All of my thoughts are pure speculation ;)

I doubt it's a scam considering they stated everything but the 1D was sold several hours ago.
