Agreed. I did own the Sigma and said it was a real "L" competition lens. In ways it is but then going back, I could not see my shooting with it again.

The AF was "whirry" rather than noisy and had a habit to hunt in low light conditions (this will vary depending on conditions and user) and never seemed to be accurate enough since it lacked HSM so by the time it locked, there was an issue where the shot was either slightly different or I had missed timed.

Sharpness was impressive even wide open but I could only see this properly when using my 400D. After switching to my 5D, it just did not seem up the same job. I am not sure what it was but it didnt behave in the same way.

If I compared photos side by size without cropping, yes it was hard to tell. My reason for ditching the Sigma was not simply down to sharpness or flare but accuracy and speed to which the L just nailed.

I have had reports of 24-70L owners reporting it is pretty soft wide open, have any of you guys?

mine isn't soft wide open. any softness i attribute to the thin DOF and user error

I was going to add that IMO it would be down to user error but thought that might cause someone to post up 30 million topics with 100% crops of their softness and then somehow relate to how the 5D II would have a micro AF adjustment *cringe*. :o

From what I've heard, the 24-70L has some bad copies, some good. I've never used one but, then again, don't think I would benefit from it. The 24-105 is nice, but, it's not for me, either. The wife loves it, though.

Well, finally spent the b'day money, plus a little extra. DOH! 2 Lightstands, a softbox, a 430EX, a reflector, some batteries, and 2 RC2 plates. Now, just need more models. I have one lined up for next week, to do a shot with a moto. Should be interesting, and fun. I'll post up, once it happens! :)

Sweet! Iv'e decided to hold off from buying my car rig for the lightstands which I will pick up on Friday. Take them up for the car shoot on Sat (which I hope happens this time).

nice...I can't wait to get it all...and work with the next model. It's really hard trying to get into all this...just finding the 'right' models is hard enough, lighting them is even harder. :(

Hopefully, everything I ordered will suffice for a little while. Here's to hoping the it does! :)

C....they have rigs on the sight...that you can search for. In fact, here's the best collection...but, I'm sure if you search for car lighting rigs, there'll be more.
