Never used the grip. Got the shakes, which that would not help. Thus, I use a tripod, whenever I can. Sucks, at 35...but, hey, I did it to myself.

Oh well...congrats on the merchandise.

Edit...some new pics,

I'd be suprised if there's more than a handful.

Not known as a sports camera and certainly not the best choice for something like the 100 meters.

I did some indoor available-light portraits recently with the 5D & 24-105L. I'm rather disappointed with the results, as they all seem to be rather soft. There was actually plenty of light (it was in a shop with an enormous window nearby) and I expected far better. Handheld with IS on.

Anyone else found this lens to be soft when wide open?

5D & 7D (both gripped), 24-105L, 100-400L, 15-85, 50 f1.8, Tamron 28-75, Sigma 12-24, G10, EX-Z55 & U/W housing, A1+10 lenses, tripods, lighting gear, etc. etc.

Can you post an example, Peter?

What was the SS, ISO, Aperture? Those are things that would help us determine the issue you are having.

OK. Here are a couple of the better ones. Now I look again more critically I see they're not as bad as I thought, not these ones at any rate, so maybe it's my technique that needs addressing.

Both were at ISO 1600 and f4, with shutter speeds around 1/50-1/70. Handheld but with IS on Both were taken RAW+JPG (highest quality), and these are the JPGs with no pp. I should add that this was not a planned formal shoot, I just met up with some friends and happened to have my camera with me. We're going to do something more formal later. The images are of Christine, 12.

Well, it sounds like you were just pushing the slow shutter speed limits, so even with IS, you will get a variety of levels of sharpness. Just figure that with that type of shooting, fire a lot of shots, use good hand-holding technique, and figure that the very best is what the camera can do for you and the rest, not-so-sharp ones are the hand-held camera shake results.
