my 5D is by far my favorite body. I still use my Mark IIN when I need AI servo accuracy and higher frame rate. But hands down my 5D with my 50 f1.4 is my camera of choice. My 20D is great as well and love using it with long lenses, the crop factor comes in handy there. I am eagerly awaiting the next rendition of the 5D.

Had my first go with an 85mm f/1.2L on the 5D on the weekend. Talk about a match made in Heaven....

Very, very nice! I love the composition and the idea.

Man I gotta try that lens with the 5D.

I love my 5D. it's just about as perfect a prime camera as the current technology allows.

I finally figured it out, Perry created this thread to torture all of those who do not own a 5D, such as myself. Now I want one even more so than before. Thanks Perry :(

You're very welcome, Frank!

But it's not 'torture', it's 'encouragement'.

Full frame, fast primes, ah...the caviar of the photographic world :D. What could be better? Perhaps a 'let's talk about why fast primes are amazing and better than your expensive crappy zooms' thread? :p

LOL. Touche.

Except your words of encouragement may very well cost me a bundle! Though if you were still contemplating shooting birds, are you going to consider a crop body my friend? ;)

It's costing me a bundle too! I've got a 28 1.8 waiting for me next week (yes, I decided not to splurge on a 35L quite yet), a 400 5.6L in the near future, and perhaps a Sigma 150 Macro, though I rarely shoot macro so I dunno about that one.

As for the crop body, I'm thinkin' about it. I'm finding the 5D is more than capable right now, but I might grab a 40D along the line when used prices come down a bit. Not so much for birding, but as backup. I'm really enjoying shooting wildlife and birds with a full frame camera actually, it's really nice.

You MUST share with me your impressions on the 28 1.8. I still haven't ordered the 35L yet - but I am confident that it's going to be my next lens without a doubt.

Also, shooting anything with the full frame must be really nice ;) Alright, I'll stop hijacking this thread and let you 5D'ers get back to having your fun :p

Nice one! Of course we don't mind, we love 'em. I think we've had at least 4 bird shots already :D.

Thanks Frank and Perry...it is an amazing piece of machinery...

I hope the next one has 'better' AI Servo...the current one holds it's own, but an extra 'few' points would work out really well, without trading up to the 1 series, which are heavier for hobbyists.

Ok Perry, watch the slurs on the expensive crappy zooms. My 70-200 2.8L IS is extraordinarily sharp, at any focal length. As sharp as my 50 1.4. As sharp as my 100 2.8 Macro. More expensive by far than both of them! lol I even got some impressive shots indoors with a 580 EX at about 30 yds with the 1.4/70-200 combo this past weekend. As a matter of fact, even the little lightweight 28-200 EF does pretty good on this body. Hmm, can the 5 take bad pictures? Rest assured it can in my hands! :)

Amazing bird shot, crystal clear, love it! Keep em coming and I'll become a birder.Ummm, that'd mean I'd "need" a 400mm, right? Oh Baaaaaaby.......
