Perry, you've got a point on the math, but I got that lens for weddings from balconies, and the aisle walk, and while you can bring the zoom back in while they walk towards you up the aisle, it'd be hard to get em to walk slow enough to drop 3 lenses on during that approach. So yeah, I hear ya, to all things there is a season and all that jazz.

That 200L is reported to be an outstanding lens in it's own right!
And I'm lusting for the new 200mm 2.0L IS! Yowza! And it's only $5,999!!!!
Yup, the 200L is one of my faves.
Depends entirely on what and how you shoot. I shoot landscapes, portraits/glamour, birds, concerts, wildlife, and lots of random stuff just for the sake of making photographs. So for what I do, fast primes are much more useful. I can take my sweet time to pick and choose lenses, I more often than not need the speed, they're lighter, cheaper, generally higher IQ for equal price zooms, and I like how primes simplify my shooting and composing.
