What part of May will you be in Hong Kong, I should be there for a at least a couple days the first week of May....Gonna load up on a bunch of gear myself:)

May 13th, so we'll probably just miss each other :p.

I live in HK from May to September, then Toronto from September to May. Travel a whole bunch of places in between. I thought the 100-400 would be better for travel, but it's heavier so I figure screw it, I'll just get that new Tamrac Expedition 7x I've been eyeing.

HK is an amazing place to buy gear if you know where to look :D. I usually end up flipping stuff I buy there here in Toronto (not intentionally, but because stuff is so cheap I don't think it through that much in HK ) for more than I paid for it, or trading it for cooler stuff. I've sold a nifty fifty, kit lens, Sigma 10-20, 70-300 IS, and a 400D here in TO, and gotten in return a 5D, a 17-40L, 200L, and 50 1.4, almost breaking even on the glass and obviously losing out on the body, haha.

There are some really cool bird species and amazing landscapes there too (I guess pretty girls as well ). They're elusive, but if you find them it's totally worth it.

Yeah, I don't know what the heck I was thinking, been snapping shots off with it left and right today......Hard to really call the 5D a backup to the mkIII, it's just what I use if the situation calls for it:)

Good thing you didn't sell it. :) It's a good camera and it still churns out fine images. Even if and when a next gen 5D is released, I would recommend this body to anyone that doesn't have one yet or is about to go FF. It's just that good! :) And for those that are anal about noise you shouldn't worry about it.

Troo dat. I think I've taken more shots at ISO 3200 than I have at ISO 100 with the 5D.

Just got my 5D about 2 months ago and I don't think I could ever go back to a crop sensor. Yeah the reach was amazing but there is just something about a full frame sensor that gets me. Here is a shot from today in my new studio. It is NOT good by any means because this is my first time with my new studio equipment but I still love the darn thing!

The 5D and 24-105 combo is sweet eh? I don't have it but I can sure see how the two make a kickass natural pairing.

The shot's nice btw - white balance is a bit off and magenta tinted the skin a bit, and the framing could be tighter with the subject a bit further from the bg, but those colours just leap right off the page.

Thank you! Yeah that was my first L lens and I absolutely LOVE it. Actually a few days after I got that pair I bought my second L lens. UGH I can see this is going to lead to more and more spending lol.

Thanks for the comment on the photo. It was actually a VERY quick shoot. It was late and we didn't have much time. I didn't even shoot in RAW which I'm mad at myself about. Thanks for the comment on the background, that's my second one and definitely my favorite so far!

I guess Canon did a good job then of making it a kit :).

Yeah, bummer, we could have met up and you could show me all the spots!
It's a pretty incredible city, I go to China a couple times a year and try to stop in on HK now and then. Most my trip this time will be spent in Sichuan (trekking around) and Shanghai (hanging with some close friends)

OMG Sichuan has some phenomenal landscapes. A perfect opportunity for the 5D to show what it's made of and why it's second only the 1Ds series and medium/large format in the landscape department.

I'm actually potentially working on a book in the summer, shooting Hong Kong's natural landscapes that you don't see in the everyday hustle and bustle of the big city. It'd be a peach shooting that, and even nicer with the 5D :D.

I concur...This time I promised myself I wouldn't sell it until Canon makes a replacement that beats it. That makes all of my gear off limits(for real this time:)), been buying and selling to get this kit for a year....with the 100-400 comming next month I'll be quite good I'd imagine:)

I'm thinking Jiuzhaigou with it's turqoise springs and waterfalls will be a perfect match for the 5D and the 17-40:) I'll be doing a similar project as you on Sichuan:)
Cool

Trippy o_O. I might be going to Juizhaigou and huangshan too on my way to Tibet :D.

And yes, the 5D and 17-40 are certainly coming with me.

It'll be so nice and warm compared to toronto right now...

maybe. i will stop buying books next semester and fund a 5d!

...i wish. the 40D looks like a more realistic option for me, but i would do anything for a 5d.

it would reduce my lens lineup so much! for my shooting purposes i would just need a 17-40, and a 70-200.

Yeah, getting the 5D let me unload a lens from my lineup too. The Canon lineup fills the 5D usage range really nicely.
