Clarence, I can tell you where it sets with me.

I have the 5D Classic and the 1DM3, and to me it's a winning combo. If you do much wildlife or sports/action stuff, the 1DM3 is a true workhorse. Plus, like Perry points out, the AF capabilities go beyond just those things -- many people prefer it because of that for things like portraits and weddings. And, the MkIII has fantastic low noise/high ISO performance. It's one of those cameras that truly can do most things very well.

That being said, and this being a 5D Classic thread:), I use my 5D plenty, partly because I like the FF format and also, a big part, is that it is more portable. I'll consider getting the 5D2, since there is nothing lost with that camera and are gains in resolution, noise, and features, but I'm quite content with the Classic and prefer it over the 1D for things like scenic/landscape photography and street photography, some event photography, and the type of environmental portrait photography that I do sometimes.

Thanks Tony...
I'm curious to know how much better the 1D3 is (well actually, how much worse the 1D2/1D2N is) from one another. I can't afford/justify the 1D3 right now - if I had that sort of money I probably would have bought the 5D2 already.
And once you get 22mpx, it's a biiig ask to go back down to a 'lowly' 10-megapixel 1D3... :p haha

If/when I get a 5D2, I'll still use the 1D body for the things I use it for now. It has strengths that just are, well, built into the 1D bodies.

I haven't used a 1DII, so I can't cover the differences between the II/N and III except of course a bit more resolution and better low noise/high ISO performance, although the II bodies are not slouches in that area -- they are quite close to the 5D classic. More fps, of course, but I never use 10 fps on the III. I hear that people like the interface on the III better than the II (including the joystick) -- Perry could probably give you better comparisons than I because he has the II.

Curiously, a number of 5D2 owners say they are shooting in sRAW (10 MP) to cut down on the filesize/processing overhead. It's hard for me to visualize doing that for the type of photography I use the 5D Classic for, but if the 5D2 was my only body I would consider doing that for, say, sports/action/wildlife shooting as long as I had the right lens lineup (no cropping required) because for me, at least, those are high volume shoots where I do shoot in bursts. So, in those instances, the 5D is being used in the same resolution as the 1D, but without the added capabilities of the 1D.

So, I'd think there would still be a case for both if it fits your shooting needs and your budget:)!

I don't know how much worse the 1DIIN is than the 1DIII, but it's only a little worse than the 5D. It's not earth shatteringly worse, but it's noticeably inferior. I put it just above the 20D/30D in high ISO image quality, maybe around 40D levels?

Holy smokes, this thread moves fast..
I've been working on a fashion footwear and handbag project and I'm lucky enough to be working with the perfect model for this.
All shot with a 5D and a 135 f/2.
Here's just a few samples..

You'll lose out in resolution and high iso noise. But the 1dMKIIn is still one of the best cameras out there. It's super versatile.

I agree on both counts, and so did the video. :)

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable price, pretty good deal. Condition and click count?

I'm shopping for a 1DII body also. That price sounds very reasonable! If you don't want it, please PM me the seller information and I'll take it:D
