It was 1:00, so less than optimal time of day, but I am sticking to my new year's resolution of taking pics every day, and that was all I could squeeze in during lunch.

Lens was a 24-70 from around 2 feet from the branch.

Good effort with the image refracted in the droplet, I've tried that, it's FRICKIN' HARD to do.

I agree with Perry, it is hard to do. I've studied a lot of Lord V's techniques, over in the macro forum, and it's 'still' hard to get right. Though, Peter, what I can suggest is getting on the ground, with a macro lens, when the dew is still on the grass, in the spring/summer. Put a mat underneath you, so you don't get soaked, and then, play with refraction...it's pretty cool.

Thanks Jay, that's what I just figured out, and you confirmed for me. For on location stuff, I think monolights will probably be a better solution. For a 'true' indoor studio, Packs/Heads might be a great option...but, the added weight to carry around on location wouldn't help.

Alongside this, I'm thinking that a battery unit, such as the VBII would be good to attach to a lightstand, so that it creates some weight, but, I don't know that even that would allow the lightstand to stand still, with some of the hardcore breeze scenarios we have here.

Another reason why I like the speedlites, but, I'm limited with their use, as well...sometimes (especially in the dark).

LordV is an absolute monster with macro, his stuff is so good.

I use speedlites indoors because they're cheap and easy . I'm trying to figure out how to connect cybersyncs to a 430EX, because I'm thinking of picking some up to replace my cheapo cactus triggers.

I'm not THAT determined to get a refraction shot :). I was just out playing around. I don't think I have the patience for macro work. The slightest wind or movement, and the shots would be ruined. Too precise for me :)

Flash Zebra part...all you need is one. I have the cybersyncs, and they are pretty good. Work reliably...and not horribly expensive. I have 3 hotshoe adapters, and those work perfectly. No need to buy extra cords, cause they come with the CS's. Click here (external link), for FZ part.

Peter, I hear ya...but, macro work is pretty cool..in its own right. But, it's not for everyone. However, once you get addicted...it's a whole different story.

SWEET, thanks Manish, and the cybersyncs come with the cable? PC to mini whatever? And the basic CyberSync™ Battery Powered Trigger Receiver (CSRB) is the right receiver? You guys are so helpful :D.

Yeap. That's why you don't need the part that you linked, cause the CS's come with everything else.

This past weekend was spent switching fish tanks. Here are 3 from the new tank. These are just quick snapshots so no PS or anything haha

The water is crystal clear today so I thought I would get a few more pictures of the rock work.

Jay, how much do your lightstands weigh in at? I know you have wheels, etc., but do the wheels have brakes? I know it'll be a heavier solution, than the ones I have now, but, if I can get a rolling cart to lug it all around, it's better than carrying everything, alongside my backpack...when doing on location shoots.

I bet though, that the lightstands, and lights with modifiers are a pretty significant weight themselves...let alone having to carry them somewhere.

Cool...how big is the tank? We have one here at work, and now that it's more populated, after the last disaster (some kind of sickness killed everything, but one), I've been asked to get more pictures. Problem is, the light even though it lights up the tank, isn't enough to get fast shutter speeds, even at ISO 3200. It's such a pain...especially when they swim so fast...hehe.

I know it wasn't directed at me, but my lightstands are pretty light, the heaviest no heavier than a good tripod. My background holder comes in at about 8KG though.

Nice Jason, shooting fish through a tank is ridiculously difficult. I tried it once for a lab and I basically resorted to prefocusing on a tripod and then spraying and praying.
