That sucks, Clarence.

I'm thinking about returning the 35L for a 50L (I have 4 days left to do it). I'm just not lovin' it. But I can't decide whether or not to just get a 50 1.4

I think the 50/1.4 isn't a bad bit of glass... I don't think the L is worth the premium for a third-stop.

Ah but it's weather-sealed, real USM, and the bokeh is gorgeeeeous. :p

That is true... and yes, bokeh is nicer than the 50/1.4, not hard to do though :p

So what's wrong with the 35, that you don't like? Just curious Perry.

Yeah no doubt the 24-105 is a lovely lens- I may keep it just to have on a body that I plan to take everywhere with me daily when I am out and about doing my day job- i miss so many great opportunities by not having a camera with me always.

but when I'm out photographing its just primes for me now. i always used a 28mm and a 50mm FD when I had a film camera ages ago. Gave up photography for many years and when I came back it was all zooms at first glance. Took me a while to find my bearings and this forum helped so much with the move to digital.

I just find that shooting with primes is a totally different "workflow", to use that fashionable term lol. It radically alters the interaction with the world that you see doesnt it?

Not saying its the be all and end all for everyone or the best way of photographing, but for me its purer and just feels right. suddenly the gear becomes transparent and its just your mind, your eye and the world about you. putting a camera up to your face with a fixed lens is a very different thing for me than putting a camera up to your face with a zoom lens.

Primes just REALLY puts things into perspective. They just feel so much more in tone with the world whereas when I did walkabouts with a zoom, everything was from the same spot and I didnt feel involved.

Now as I have to think hard about my composition and my position, its so much more positive BUT I found its hard to describe it to someone who doesnt shoot primes or has the same enjoyment.

Nice! I had the 5D + 1D combo for a little while too.

Its just nice to know that THE camera that I have wanted since I had my 400D is still with me.

Saying that, they are rarer than a Ferrari 308 GTS in the UK so count yourself lucky. They are snapped up in seconds here!

I snatched up a 1DM2N yesterday...I hope it wasnt' one that you had an offer in on. They seem to pop up pretty regularly. I think the prices are going to go even lower.

Okay, I cannot find who it was (I believe that it was Clarence) that was showing us his new hard case for his gear.

Today, I picked up a free custom made hard case that this photog used for his long glass (400 & 600mm). The foam on the inside is a little ragged, so I am going to make it a pet project to replace the foam, and also add some dividers to hold my gear. I stopped by all my local hardware stores, and they don't carry any sort of hard foam. Where the heck do you guys get this foam? I don't want to spend the $60 on the pelican replacement foam.

Name is Peter and here is my gear:
Canon 5D II, Canon 7D, Canon 40D
Glass - Zeiss 21 f/2.8 ZE, Canon 35 f/1.4L, Canon 40 f/2.8 STM, Canon 24-70 f/2.8
L, Canon 85 f/1.2L II, Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, Canon 500 f/4L IS
Speedlite 580ex II, 430ex - Gitzo GT-3541XLS w/ Arca B1

Yeah, that's right, you were showing off your TT without the lens hoods :) . I'm thinking someone else must have a hard case.

It is getting quieter in this thread isnt it? Guess a lot of peeps have bought the 5d MII..... I remember when this was one of the hottest threads on the board.

here's a couple from the weekend

regards

David

David, Keep in mind that the more folks that buy the 5D MK II, means there will be more 5D Classics for sale. I'm not the only one that just bought a Classic version.
Nice shots BTW. Abandoned building? ;)

I was looking at those, as well as the regular 1D MK II 9No "N") when I decided to pull the trigger on the 5D Classic instead. :)

I think the non-N screen is too small - how does one live with a sub-2" LCD?!
