I sense this thread will be renamed soon...

1D admirers, assemble!

:p

With 6871 posts? I don't think so.
Seriously though, My sights at the time were set on either a 1D MK II, or the 5D. After reading about the IQ of the 5D, then finding one in pristine condition for sale, the 5D won the coin toss. ;)

I've wanted a 5D for a while now. I found one that was priced too good to pass up. :)

Hey!

When I was out shooting with my grandson the day before yesterday, he was shooting with my 5D and 24-105. I was trying out my 100-400 with a 1.4 TC on the 1D3, chasing ducks and taking pictures of him as he was shooting the scenic stuff, so it was fun.

Anyway, at one point I was explaining to him how to use the strap, either around his neck or wrapped around his wrist, and tried to explain to him the value of the camera -- not just how much it would cost me to replace it if he dropped it, but I tried to explain how the 5D has, over the past 3 1/2 years, become one of the most respected and admired bodies in DSLR history.

It's funny trying to explain that to someone who is not into the tech aspect of photography, and how you get to feel some kind of feeling for it and almost a "mystique" about it (can you say magic:)?) but it was nice to pass on a sense of respect for the great gear!

I have my second 5D in my possession now :)

I'm going to try to appreciate the battery grip - considering I'll have to, once I get a 1D Mark II N anyway :p

I hear ya Tony. It's like this sense a pride...when you tell someone you have a 5D. They almost instantaneously are wowed by the fact. I mean, 1-series cams have their place...but, this one is in a place of it's own.

Congrats Clarence...now you can sell both, and buy a 1-series, and be done with it...hehe! j/k.

I have another question (sorry I'm discovering the 5D...)
is there any reason to not activate the advanced function 08 (ISO expansion) ? Why not enable the 50 and 3200 ISO always ?

Here's another shot, that I didn't link elsewhere. Let me know your thoughts on the conversion, etc.

This is a very interesting low light shot Tony. I like it. :)
I used to like to shoot in this type light using TMAX iso 3200 film, albeit it was more grainy. It was fun going for shots that most people thought were not possible. ;)
I tried to look at the EXIF for this, but it wasn't available. Was this taken at iso 3200?

Bruce, it's Manish...not Tony...but so I presume you are referring to my shot? ;)

It was shot at ISO 100, with a 580 bounced into an umbrella to cam. right, at about 1/2 + .3 power. Converted to B&W, and then applied a slight sepia filter, for that look. Touched up a couple of blesmishes, cropped a little and that was about it.

Not sure why the exif isn't available...I guess SmugMug does that, when I link the file from there? Taken with the 5D, 24-105 at about 67mm or so, and everything else I mentioned.

Appreciate the sentiments.
