well I am wanting a good 50mm now.... I'm just not sure about the sigma. I know the "good" copies rock. I just don't like the idea of how many bad ones you hear about :( Did yours need calibrating perry?

I doubt that they'll touch the 50mm lineup at all. Even if they added ring USM to it, it would bite into the 50L's sales since they're so close in aperture. Look at the differences in Canon's primes between consumer and professional as far as aperture.

35 1.4 -> 2.0 That's a pretty big difference
50 1.2 -> 1.4 A third stop isn't all that huge
85 1.2 -> 1.8 Once again, pretty big difference

I doubt that they'll touch it as it would be too close to the 1.2 for a ring USM lens.

It probably does :lol:. But I just love having a quality 50mm prime, but I guess I should send it in...

What is the "not-so-nifty" fifty? :lol: From the garish bokeh I'd say that's gotta be the 50 1.8 or 50 1.4.

The nifty fifty, but I'm not a fan. IT feels like a cheaply made toy. I guess you cant beat it for the price though

hehe well Sounds like you enjoy yours then. I used my friends canon 1.4 the other day and I'm not totally sold on that lens.... Sorry but I just didn't like the bokeh at all from it. :confused: I might have to "try" a sigma. :D

I do enjoy it, I'll process and post a shot after dinner, I used it for about 15% of the frames during my shoot yesterday, 85L for about 80%, and the 24-105 for the last 5%. 135L...:confused:....no action. The Canon 50 is a good lens, the focus ring is just a pain, AF could be better, and the bokeh is crap. But otherwise the 50 1.4 is a decent lens. The Sigma, admittedly, has pretty nice bokeh.

I'm sure outside, that 135L would be top notch. I'd like one...;)

Yeah you're right, and it's a terrific lens, but I do miss my 200 f/2.8.

Ya, all of these people posting their "dream lens" being a 10-200 f1.2 Is...blah blah etc... Id be just happy with a canon 50mm that was good in every way.....

nifty = cheap lens, crappy bokeh...
1.4 = nice lens, crappy bokeh....
1.2 = awesome lens, awesome bokeh, crappy AF.....

why cant we have something that sits somewhere in the middle of all of that around $500ish... id be so happy....vmad

Fine, all of you ignore my argument on why I doubt Canon will make a ring USM 50 ;)

Did anyone else send in their 5Ds to Canon for the mirror fix? I'm quite impressed with the cleaning that they gave my 5D. It's spotless.

I agree with you TaDa I have NO confidence in canon coming out with a new 50mm anytime soon :) ..... would be nice though.

I am still on the fence about sending mine in.... I just got it and I cant bear to part with it for now :D
