Fine, all of you ignore my argument on why I doubt Canon will make a ring USM 50 ;)

Did anyone else send in their 5Ds to Canon for the mirror fix? I'm quite impressed with the cleaning that they gave my 5D. It's spotless.

What was your turn-around time?

Yeah it'd be nice, but I also don't think they'll make a new 50.

I am not sending my 5D in, it works perfectly. I'll go get it repaired if the mirror falls off.

Ya, all of these people posting their "dream lens" being a 10-200 f1.2 Is...blah blah etc...

It needs to weigh under 1kg, and have four-stop IS.

White or black, I'm not too fussed. I mean, can't be too picky, can we ;)

Speaking of 50s, I noticed that a lot of shots for the SI Swimsuit Issue were done with 50s -- anyone know for sure about the lenses used?

What was your turn-around time?

10 days including the weekend that they were closed, so 8 business days. I dropped it off in person, and once it was done, they overnighted it back to me via Fedex.

Most of the ones that I saw were done with a 24-70. Many are right around 50mm, (51mm, 53mm, 48mm, etc.). The pic with the assistant carrying the camera looks like a 50L hood though.

I still havent seen what they are doing in the fix. The pic you posted looks just like mine.

I'm not sure what parts they changed, but the work order says replaced mirror box assembly. I wasn't sure if that plastic overhang piece was there before. Since you say that yours has it, then they probably just super glued it and cleaned it :)

Edit: Looking at the Service Details, here is what it says.

We have examined the product according to your request, and a modification was made to secure the mirror. The part was attached. Checked all, adjusted focus and exposure, cleaned to factory specs. Cleaned C-MOS

I have a question, if I buy a used 5D, will canon still honor the recall and service it for free? Or does it have to be under warranty and registered?

Yes, you missed something. Probably just a crappy pic that I took, but my mirror assembly now has a sort of L-bracket that juts out on to the mirror itself. See how your mirror just sits flush against the arms? Mine now has a piece that comes off of those arms and keeps the mirror in place.

Bad Karma, I think it is for any camera with the issue. I purchased a Canon factory refurb a couple weeks ago and there is no registration for it.

TaDa, I see, well I guess I will wait till the mad rush is over before sending mine in. It only has about 350 clicks on it so I dont think it will fly off any time soon.

I've yet to find out a problem with my mirror... I don't need the fix until it happens to me, right? :p

I don't think so? Or at least I hope not. Though, i haven't had a problem with mine, in the 2.5 years I've had it....so, here's to hoping for another 2.5 years.
