It needs to weigh under 1kg, and have four-stop IS.

White or black, I'm not too fussed. I mean, can't be too picky, can we ;)

hehe screw white and black, make it out of carbon fiber and titanium THEN put a red ring on it.:p

As a previous poster asked, if a 5D is purchased used or refurbed, will Canon still honor the recall? Does the body have to be under warranty?

I just sent mine in, and I told them (Canon) that the camera was purchased second hand. They said that was not an issue and sent me a return shipping label. She told me that in addition to the mirror reinforcement, the camera would receive a "mini overhaul", whatever that entails. She said the expected turn around was about 3 weeks, but they had actually been doing a little better than that. I'm hoping that by the time it gets back, I might actually have something to point it at. Winter isn't a pretty time of year in these parts!

What is this mirror-fix everyone's talking about? Do we just send them in and they 'fix' them? How do we know if we need it or not?
Why haven't I heard of this until now?

Bad Karma, I think it is for any camera with the issue. I purchased a Canon factory refurb a couple weeks ago and there is no registration for it.

TaDa, I see, well I guess I will wait till the mad rush is over before sending mine in. It only has about 350 clicks on it so I dont think it will fly off any time soon.

Thank you

Will this recall ever "expire"?

It's confusing, the US seems to say only 5Ds whose mirror has already fallen out, but Peter got his serviced. Here in Canada it seems to be a general thing. An issue with some mirrors falling out in high humidity - if it falls out, Canon will fix it for free regardless of warranty status.

Well, I finally got around to posting a set on the G&N sub-forum.

Since I'm not a studio photographer, it is not G.

Most of my people shots are either environmental portraiture or home-environment stuff. These shots are what you could call "Environmental Nudity".

So, if you are in for that, here's the link (obviously I can't post samples here):

Oh, I should add most of these shots were taken with the 5D.

And, for an extra bonus, shot #7 was taken with the 50 1.4 on the 5D through a windshield, and I thought it came out quite well!

In keeping with the 50mm theme as of late, I have brought these aboard. I just got back
from a spontaneous trip to Asheville yesterday afternoon, and pulled these from the pile.
They were all shot with the nifty-fifty+5D.

The missus was snuggling up, getting tired last night in the couch. Naturally, I grabbed the camera from the table, turned the flash head so it would bounce against the windows, held it out in one arm and shot blindly, aiming it in our general direction:

50mm F/1.4 on my 5D.

Am I the only one thinking that a laser sight for the camera would be an awesome gadget? Utterly useless for anything but stupid shots like this, but it would impress the ladies methinks. Or at least blind the kids so they would sit still when I shoot them. Whatever, I want one.

OK, I will post one of the shots I just put up on G&N because it doesn't have overt nudity, uses the 5D with the 50 1.4, and, well, because I did a B&W conversion of it that I like:

Nice execution on that shot dkspook, and I think I'd outfit my 5D with your new addon. At the
least it would make for hours of great fun with cats.

And man, I am gone for 1 1/2 days and 8 pages behind.

That is a nice conversion Tony. I liked the fun atmosphere that looked quite evident in that
series of shots you posted up.
