Nice boobs, good light, don't dig the pose, skin smoothing too much.

You can only type this so many times. CC includes the word constructive. Sometimes there just isn't much to say.

Then other times there is a hot girl, the picture is "the usual" and you don't want to say. "She's hot, typical shot".

When I reply in there, it's because I see something of excellence or a quick tip that cold make it excellent.

but i think it would make for some quick giggles if I read a few

"dude, she's hot...next time loose the panties"

"Omg, who gave you a camera?"

"my grandma looks better naked"

I have no problem doing that elsewhere. I use restraint in G&N. My text is often misinterpreted, typing in G&N adds a 1000 watt amp to that.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional

haha...i know what you mean. I too am the same way. If only the text could show my true character. I used to often offend because emotion can't be read...so I have to watch how I type these days.

I've been looking at G&N (and People, and others) a lot to get ideas on lighting and composition. Just last week I broke 500 posts, and I entered in my first comment in the G&N section.

Part of it is that people want to look but not necessarily comment. In my case, I want to look, and will only make a comment if I think I have something to add to the conversation. Until now, I've even been barred from doing that until recently.

Ultimately, I think that's human nature.

Why not something you like about the shot and something you do not.

If you do not like something about a shot, or find it may be technically incorrect, maybe someone can than explain why a shot may be done that way or be able to take it as feedback as in what people have liked about it.

That is when I do post!

I dont know about the posters in there, but I posted for C&C, not to show off my work to lonely guys at home behind their computers.

Maybe you should add to your thread title, "Don't look if you don't intend to offer intelligent critique!"

Get real, man. The G&N forum represents some of the most creative work, by some of the most talented photographers in POTN. I view lots of G&N threads. I learn a lot, and I avoid commenting unless I can truly provide something meaningful.

Sex appeal aside (which I certainly don't mind), there is more variety and creativity with regard to lighting, costume, background/setting, makeup, posing, etc. in the G&N forum than any of the other photo sharing sections.

What do you suggest that something is?

maybe allow users to view x amount of threads, and then disable it until a reply is posted.

probably too ridiculous of me to ask, its not like i post there often anyways. not to mention the amount of spam that would probably cause.

i forgot to factor in that users with less than 500 posts weren't allowed to reply to the threads also.

anyways ill "get real" with myself.

thanks for the responses guys, i didnt want to come across as bitter, although i was a little surprised, like djeuch said, its human nature :P

i have taken my post down from g&n i dont think im ready for it yet.

I don't think the board software supports that. Even if it did, I can see it generating a whole lot of work for the admin team having to reset "view counts" for people who run over their x views inadvertently or who don't realise and subsequently "promise to be good".

I'm all in favour of encouraging people to comment on photos more (regardless of the share section) but I can't see how "forced" comments are going to be beneficial. It will just tend to produce a lot of "nice shot" one liners from people having to make up their quota that whilst nice to hear sometimes aren't really that helpful to the image poster. Quality, not quantity is what is most important.

That would require code modification to the forum so thats unlikely to happen. Besides forcing members to post will only result in comments like "nice photo" it will not force members to post real critique.

Because you didn't get the comments you were hoping for?

Hmm then I guess a lot of us might as well not post photos at all. Many posts in the rest of the forums get very few or no comments at all. Thats the downside of a site as big as POTN. G&N is no different from the other forums in that respect.

The view/reply ratio is bigger in G&N because of the 500 post and 3 months limit.

Has everyone (except Tommy) forgotten that the vast majority of POTN members CAN'T post a reply in the G&N forum?

Seriously, trying to modify peoples natural behavior to suit your own particular wants is futile.
Might as well try and hold back the sea.

If you do not want people to look at your images in the G&N forum, then the only answer is to not post them there.
