Hi all

first topic post so please be gentle.

got a 400D a week ago & am having trouble with CF mem cards.its a bit of a long story so bear with me.

got a 1gb fuji 100x card with the camera which works most of the time but do get the odd error.
so i thought id get a larger card as im starting to shoot RAW & hopefully get
rid of the errors.

got a 4gbEx3 of fleabay which seemed to work BUT was fake so sent it
back and got a refund.

got the next one from a reputable sellar online & sure enough its the real
thing BUT it doesnt work in my camera?when i go to format it doesnt give the size only ----?
and if i continue with format i get ERR99 & it locks up.

that was yesterday so i went to a puter fair today & got a 2gb Ex3 & a 4gb kingston.took it home & they both dont work comes up with the error as above.

now for the funny bit, they all work in my sisters 300D BUT her 2gb micro drive again does not work in mine?

so am i missing a setting on my camera?

ive tried formatting on both the camera & my puter but still no joy.

the only couple of thigs i have seen that are differant are:

1/when you first put the fuji card in camera & close the door the cf red light comes on for a couple of seconds but all the other cards dont.

2/the fuji will only work in FAT ,by that i mean if i format in camera it always
comes out in FAT even if i format in puter in FAT32 then put in in camera.

so maybe the camera doesnt do FAT32?

HELP Please

I suspect something is wrong with the camera. I'd contact Canon for service. You might try upgrading the firmware first if you don't have the latest though.

The 400D does FAT32. Look inside the card slot, and at the Fuji card. It's possible you've got a pin broken off inside the Fuji. That could explain all your problems. That wouldn't be a warranty repair, but it's possible that there is some other problem with the camera that would be, if you don't have a bent/broken pin.

look inside the camera where you slide the CF card in. Grab a flash light and inspect the pins. You might have a bent/broken pin in there or something.

had a look & there are no bent pins.

i can tell right off when a card is not going to work cause the CF light dont come on & it takes a long time to boot up.

just like to update peepz on my story so far.

1/got in touch with canon & they sent me a link to an authorized canon service center.

2/sent it away insured/signed for,special delivery.

3/got camera back 3 days later, put mem card in & it works a dream.

4/look at LCD,nothing,black,blank,take pics & it shows pic number+settings.

5/phoned service center & they say send it back & we`ll pay for postage.

6/phoned today & still waiting repairs i`m told.

7/also looked in CF slot & there is some stuff stuck in there

8/Gggrrrr,I WANT MY CAMERA BACK.......

9/end of rant
