I currently use 2x Pocket Wizard Plus IIs but now these Radio Poppers will be out soon im seriously considering them. I need another receiver as i have bought a second light so am thinking should i go for another Pocket Wizard or sell my current two and buy an STE2 then pick up some Radio Poppers when they are released.

Also anyone know a exact release date on the radio poppers?

Thanks

I doubt you'll be happy w/ the ST-E2 coming from PWs. But those Radio Poppers do sound good. How well do PWs hold their value?

I reckon they should hold value pretty well (Maybe drop 20%) until the radio poppers come out at which point they will drop a fair bit.

My latest thought is to get another PW Plus II and buy a Michael Bass 15ft ETTL Cord for close range ETTL, Keep the PWs untill the Radio Poppers are well advanced and tested, rather then loosing on PWs keep them to trigger studio lights or remote cameras. Then buy 3 Radio Poppers once they are well advanced.

Does that line of though sound rational or stupid?

What's the obsession w/ E-TTL Angus? Get a a good flash meter (like a Sekonic L-358) and forget about E-TTL.

It will probably be a while before the Radio Poppers start getting real world reviews, but who knows...

Just find ETTL too easy and perfect. If i was going to get a meter i dont think ide lash out $500 i would rather buy a used L308s for $120ish

There was a real world review from the guys at Tri-Coast photography, they have been using them at workshops. Apparently they are very impressive.

Thanks Michael. Yes there is one from tricoast and they liked them but not riggered use or anything like the PWs have. Might get the Poppers at the end of the year or so once they are proven.

Were you thinking of the L-758 series, they go for $400-500.

Unless you're shooting moving objects, ttl is likely to give you different powers when metering on different parts of the subject and wouldn't be consistant.

I doubt the introduction of Radio Poppers will drive the cost of PW down. They have different functions, and PW will remain the standard IMO.

The Radio Poppers are good (as far as reviews say) for using Canon or Nikons wireless flash system, and enhancing the range of that system.
