...Well besides the kit lens that is actually.
I saw someone on Craigslist selling a EF 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 and a EF 70-210mm f/4 and so I picked them up for $275 together. (Is this a good deal?) I was doubtful, at first, with buying lenses that are older than me. (I'm only 20).

I read up reviews for both the 28-70mm and the 70-210mm. Reviews for the 28-70mm were generally very good with many stating its the best non-L zoom to date. The 70-210mm f/4 got mixed reviews but on the whole both lenses were regarded to be well worth their price. So what the heck. I bought the lens thinking I can resell them if I didn't like them!

Ok so first the 28-70mm:
I was looking for something to replace my 18-55mm kit lens. I personally find the kit lens not too bad, but this forum had changed my perspective about it 180 degrees .
The AF is noisier but just as speedy as the AF on the 18-55mm kit lens. The retracting front element is not very ergonomical. Front element cannot rotate with lens cap or filter ?bigger than 52mm? on.

Here are two comparison shots at 100%:

The 28-70mm is a bit sharper than the kit lens

The 28-70mm also shows better colors.

And for the 70-210mm...
Images seem quite sharp (to me at least), sharper than the 28-70mm?? Wow this lens is long when fully extended! Push/pull zoom is interesting, constant aperature is nice. AF is very noisy though and hunts quite a bit =(
