Greetings
I have a question regarding buffer size in the Mark 1D III. I currently shoot to of two these bodies and I have noticed a difference in the number of pictures I can take in rapid sequence before the buffer is full. In the view finder in the Mark III on the right side the number of shots remaining before the buffer is full is displayed. In one of my Mark IIIs it is always about 40 or so and in my other Mark III it is only about 14.
As far as I can tell both cameras are set up the same so why I am getting such a difference between the two bodies. Do I have a buffer problem in one of my cameras?

Both cameras have been back to Canon many times

Thanks

Better check again. I'd bet they are not setup the same.

There are a few settings that change the displayed buffer number. RAW vs JPG being the most significant. CF settings matter too, like Noise reduction ON vs OFF.

You have a Custom Function set on one, and not the other.
You can eliminate this either of two ways.

1. Manually go through and double check all Custom functions.
2. Rec9rd custom functions and settings from the camera with full buffer to a memory card, transfer to the other camera and load the settings.

I don't recall exactly what CF it is that results in that 14 frames showing, but it is either Highlight tone priority of noise reduction or something like that.

Thanks for the quick reply
Perhaps the best and simplest way is to simply clear all the custom settings and then compare the two camera bodies…

Actually, as CyberdyneSystems said, the easiest way is to save your camera settings "from the camera that is registering 40" to the compact flash card. Insert the card into the other camera and choose load settings from card. You will then be guaranteed that both camera are set the same.

Thanks again,
As I look at the images from the body with the 40+ buffer they look much softer as usual so I assume I must have done some to cause this, perhaps this is why I could take so many pictures before the buffer was full.
What is the normal amount number I should expect in see in my view finder indicating the number of pictures (L JPEG)remaining in the buffer…14 seems sort of low

See if you have ISO noise reduction (C.Fn II-2) turned on on the camera with the smaller number of shots. That has the most dramatic impact on the number of shots you can buffer.

If you're shooting jpegs, shouldn't you be able to buffer around 110 shots? It sounds like you've got CFs set on both cameras that are limiting your buffer.

Which one would do this? I assume the best way to fix this would be to erase all the custom settings?

Yes I saw that and thanks again for you help ;) but since I have a bunch of soft images on the body with the larger functioning buffer I just assumed that I screwed up something else. Perhaps at this point I though the best thing to do rather than produce the error on my other body ,was to just clean all of the custom functions :o and start over

high iso noise reduction reduces mine from 22 to 14.

Then just reset the body. Good Luck

When I'm set to L jpeg, it shows as 99. When turn on high ISO NR, it drops to 14.
