I was wondering why the silver body is cheaper then the black body is that really that big of a deal. My 300D is a silver body and i got so many comments on it not looking professional is that why there just a little less . What is professional lol. I happen to like the silver but now im kinda leaning towards a black.

Heather, my love, your ego can handle what others say about the color of your camera. I would paint mine purple if I thought it would drive people up the wall.

I think it's just marketing, more people prefer black so they tend to raise the price a little to make a little profit off the black bodies and silver cheaper to sell more silver bodies.

It's simply a perception issue. Black cameras as "professional" bodies came into vogue in the 70's and 80's. There's certainly no difference in capability.

You can actually take better pictures with the black.

Let's say you're in a forest shooting random birds. The birds would take one look at your silver camera and fly away in disgust - who cares to be photographed by amateurs.

Now, if your camera was black, they would probably fluff their feathers up or pretend to be pecking at some imaginary insect. It's every bird's dream to be on the cover of National Geographic.

PS: But then again, I don't shoot birds, I shoot people, and people don't differentiate.

Supply and demand indeed. I see silver bodies go for significantly cheaper on Ebay consistently.

I always thought silver was more expensive...I saw on Beachcamera.com that the silver was like $20-$40 more expensive than the black.
I like black personally. It's more discreet and not as flashy. i like being able to carry it around in a public place without drawing attention to a giant silver object in my hand.
Like if somone is carrying a gun or knife...People quickly see a silver or chrome gun and know what it is, but if somone is walking with a black glock for instance, noone notices until it's too late.
That's what I like to do with the camera...take the shot before they realize it. Makes for much better candids.

now someone told me this once..

silver bodies are better in places that have high levels of sunlight.. - the reasoning behind this was that silver reflects heat and sun.. where as the black bodies absorbs the heat / light...

* honestly i think its total bollocks but hey who knows *
