And broke my 50 mm 1.8

The camera had a 17-70 Sigma on it when fell... and it broke the filter that was on it. The impact was pretty hard, on the corner of the lens/fitler.

Visually, the 17-70 seems OK. Could it have been knocked out of alignment at all? What is the best way to test? Can it be fixed if there is a problem?:cry::cry:

TIA

Opps!

What is wrong with 50mm?

You can probably find some tests to do for your lens, but keep shooting with it and if you notice any differences then start to worry.

If it is broken in some way, contact Sigma to find a local repair center.

Cheers

Sorry about the loss. Well the 50mm f/1.8 is cheap. It's a sign to upgrade to the f/1.4. :) As for your Tamron, it'll be best to do some tests, real life and focus test, then decide if it needs to be repaired.

I would run a front/back focus test as well as a shot of a focus chart just to make sure all is well. Real world pics are just too variable.

Please post photos.

Do you have the hood on on the 17-70?

I'd look into a new bag...unless you dropped it out a window.

Thanks for all of the condolences :D I'll try the tests suggested... but for now I have attached a pic of the broken 50mm (using the Sigma). I included a 100% crop... I think it still looks pretty sharp???

I think my title was a little poorly worded. It wasn't the actual bag that "dropped"... it was more "fumbled". Bag was unzipped, and I picked it up... fumbled it (as I didn't know it was unzipped), and the 50mm went flying. I tried to catch the 50mm, missed it, and managed to spill the camera (with 17-70 attached) and then bag... to the ground :o. I'm sure it was quite the scene for anyone that witnessed.

The hood was on, backwards, but isn't really worse for the wear. I'd post pictures of it, but I now don't have another lens to use to do it :D

Have you tried pushing the two halfs of the 50 f1.8 back together?

A "Sledge-O-Matic" might be used on the 50mm, looks like it could be put back together.
Really, sorry to hear about your accident. It's like catching the basket and dropping the eggs, bummer.

Sorry to hear, but never sit your bags down without closing the buckle or zipper. If you have to open it 50 times because you get in the habit of doing so, it's better than the results you've posted.

At least the Sigma seems to be in good shape, at least as far as I can tell from the photos.

Better to get a separate policy your deductibles will be much lower and the rates are about the same (mine is $80 a year for 5K coverage with $100 deductible). You don't ever want to make a claim against your home owners insurance if you can avoid it.
