Did you try to snap it back together? Seriously, I hear that's been successful, but I don't know about what kind of break was encountered in those instances. And it's only what I heard on the internet, so take it with a grain of salt.

But do try to snap it together, just in case.

I tried to get it back together, but a couple of the tabs look broken. If others have managed... I'll do some searching and give it another go!

Thanks!

It really does make you wonder why bother with a protective filter on a nifty though.

Yeah, the Hoya is as much cost as the 50!

True, maybe the lens saved the filter...

:D Yup, good thing the lens was there to keep the filter from breaking.

Actually, I was (and still am) a rookie... and just assumed I'd need the filter when I bought the lens.

In canada the fifty seems to be more expensive though. A year + ago when I bought it i think it was around 100.

:cry:That hurt:cry::cry:
And to me anything cost more than a 6pack of Heineken isn't cheap when it comes to completely loosing it. And if anyone thing other wise please send me a cheap gift of $70.00 and if enough people sent it I can buy me and the OP a 1.4

I wasn't able to get it back together. It is a photo subject now... and a paper weight... that is about it.

I'm just uploading some test pics with the focus test you suggested on the other thread. I did the focus test when it was suggested here, and it seemed OK (a bit of a back focus). Now that you mention on the other thread that it looks off I have done the test again... and now it looks pretty obviously off. :(

Is this a problem?

A real world example (though a terrible picture) looks ok to me though. I was focused on the left eye.
