I'm just getting started with RAW and found they just released CHDK on the SD800. I downloaded, and it seems to work. It makes giant files with the extension .crw. How do I get those into a readable format?

I'm using googles picasso and a card reader as was suggested here. You can go into Picasso, look for "import" and it should show up as a removable drive.

If you can, I would love to see some examples.

I do have a card reader. Is there a specific one to use?

I'm on a Mac, so Picasa doesn't work. I also don't have GIMP because I don't like the interface, but that one I can download.

So, there's nothing I can do to the file itself to make it readable in iPhoto or Aperture? I also own a G9. I wonder if any Canon software from the G9 disc would help me read this crw format...

You have to convert to .jpg first. I use this for Mac:

just loaded chdk for my s5is yesterday, and having heaps of fun :-)

I would recommend downloading http://dng4ps2.chat.ru/index_en.html (external link)

thats the dng4ps2 which can convert your .crw files to dng with exif info from the jpg.
ALSO it puts something in the registry so you can actually copy your crw & jpg files directly off the camera without the need for a card reader, or removing the card, just use the usb cable. :-)

then you can use anything to open the dng files, I use picasa for photo group managing and slideshows, and lightroom for editing(which I know nothing about yet, but working on it).
