She's helping me learn off camera lighting...most of these were shot at the presidio somewhere near the golden gate entrance. The lighting is done with a 580ex II shooting through a white umbrella usually to camera right.

Would love you comments and CC!

Nice shots! What did you use to trigger the 580EX?

I like them all but #3, it seems out of focus and I don't care for the crop. The other three are nice thou and great try for first off camera lighting, I got an off camera set up for my speedlite too and I am just trying it out... I look forward to seeing more!

I am super cool n' stuff.

Zach,

Very nice showing. I love the light and color of #1, the 'fun factor' in #2, agree with auroraskye that #3 seems a bit OOF and her chin a bit low, and #4 has great light balancing w/ the ambient. If I were to change anything about them generally, I would probably change up the direction of the light slightly in #'s 2 and 4, so that the lighter side of the subject is on the same light side as the background. As it turns out (IMO) you've done such a nice job of balancing it that the light looks natural in every way except its angle. Well done.

Sean

i really love the first one. I really want to try this - i'm looking into an umbrella and wireless trigger for my 580. Are you using a regular like 6' stand and moving it around?
