New bird lens?

Doh, I thought I used a different lens for this! But alas it was with my 200. I'm still dreaming of the 400 though!

And this is exactly why I just bought a 70-200/4. Great shots of some of my favorite little birds.

Very nice series, and good to see some at 200mm!

Lovely shots - all my bird shots were also taken on my 70-200 f/4. It's a cracker of a lens. I'm thinking of bringing in my cheapo tamron 2x converter, and see if I can get some good results. Optically, it seems fine (I've paired it with my 24-70 with reasonable results), but I'm not sure how great the AF will be with an effective aperture of f/8.

Yeah my birds know me well enough to come too close to focus with the 200! I keep thinking I want the 400 for birds farther away, but I mainly shoot in the back yard, so I worry the 400 won't be used as much as the price makes me think I need to use it.

I especially like the first with the White Throated Sparrow..Nice!

Numbers 1-3 are very nice indeed. Mind you nothing wrong with 4 either !

Great series with the first being my favourite.

THE 200mm is a very sharp lens why not just get a 1.4tc for it .

Nice shot. How do you get to know the birds so well, ours wait for us to get the camara out and dissapear from sight. So most are done with the window open I have both the 200 & 400 lens plus converter and use them all with good effect.again lovely shots of lovely birds

These are taken with the kenko 1.4TC I think. I normally have it on there when shooting birds. I was thinking of just getting the 2x as well since I may not use 400 much, I may even deal with the slight loss of IQ.

Not sure. But they are sometimes mean! I go out to shoot and if one of the feeders is empty they sit near me and chirp very loud. Then they fly to feeder and bang on it with their beaks and then come back and chirp! They seem to be so mad at me for not filling it quickly enough, of course they drain two feeders a day! I can't afford it!

I can get the chickadees to eat from my hand and had one titmouse and one nuthatch try real quick once. And one time I was busy shooting a titmouse acting very cute and posing for me I didn't see a woodpecker fly up, then he landed right on me and scared me. I yelp a bit, not knowing what happened. he flew to the branch next to me and "yelled" at me, then just sat there to pose for me.

It's interesting in my backyard some days!
