Downy's are the tamest bird there is, right out of the box. When I first started feeding birds in my yard, I walked to within 3 feet of a downy hanging on a light pole in our yard. I held out a peanut to him, but he got nervous and scooted around the back side, so I walked over and placed it on a little yard table. He flew over and landed on my pant leg to check it out.
I haven't got any of my yard birds to hand feed yet, but I do have one Juvie Blue Jay that will land in my windowsill for peanuts I put there. And, I was training him to talk when winter got here. This spring, when I can have the window open again, I plan to work with him so he comes right in the window and onto my desk for peanuts.
