I went out to shoot some in the golden hours. This bird was half in the shade, half in the early light.

I say this often and mean it every time but this is one of my favorite birds.

Nice light on this image and I would be happy to just see one let alone get a nice image like this. There is one reported to be frequenting a feeder about an hour's drive from my place...its creating quite a stir as we don't often see them up this far.

PS...Did you get some new gear?

Gary,
Thanks for noticing - I got the 40D with the 28-135mm IS kit in mid-January and just recently added the 18-55mm IS.

I still struggle with a 200mm for birds, but until they add IS to the 400mm f/5.6 or upgrade the IS on the 300mm f/4L, I'll struggle with 200mm. I may pick up the 1.4TC.

My New Year's resolutions were to 1) shoot wide, 2) shoot vertical and 3) always set my white-balance with an 18% gray card when shooting wildflowers.

Getting the 18-55mm IS is to help me shoot wide while delaying getting the 10-22mm. I'm just trying to get out of the 70-200mm zone I was stuck in.

I put the 28-135mm IS on the old Rebel XT and have got my wife a tiny bit interested in photography.
