4-stop IS on the 18-55mm IS

I know I'm a measurebatur but I can't help myself.

Shot with and without IS at 4-stops below rule of thumb.

55 mm x 1.6 = 88

Rule of thumb shutter speed is 1/88 sec. each of the next four stops would be 1/44, 1/22, 1/11, 1/5.5.

These two images were shot with the Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 at f/5.6 and 1/5 sec. shutter speed.

Without IS:

WOW!! big diffrence!

I am never buying a non-IS lens again.

I've been really wanting to pick up this lens over the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 as I already have the SIgma 24-70 f/2.8. I don't need a tank-like lens, and this one certainly hits the bill.

Here's a test shot at 55mm of the house across the street (handheld, 100% crops) (it was a hazy day):

Definitely a good lens. Thanks for the demonstration.

Heh... yet again proves the effectiveness of IS. I suppose one point of interest here would be comparing the in-lens IS to the competition's in-body IS.
